Kitten Insurance – Is Younger Better Or Worse?

Kitten Insurance – Is Younger Better Or Worse?

So you’re looking to get kitten insurance? Is there some sort of special insurance for your young pet? Is it worse or better to bring it in early? These are some of the questions that may be on your mind.

The truth is that there is rarely a special plan that covers pets of certain age groups (although we have seen a plan for “senior cats”), but there are definitely differences in the cost dependent on age. The good news is that you’ve made the right choice by going in as early as possible, a lot of plans offer cheaper rates for bringing your pet in early. Here are a few things to look out for to make sure your plan works for you:

With an older cat you might not run into this, but neutering and flea treatments are considered “elective procedures” meaning the insurance plan won’t cover it. Check and make sure your plan will cover these. There is often a clause against “pre-existing conditions” so remember to get your kitten insurance as soon as possible, and before you get it a check-up. This way the insurance will kick in first and when you do get your cat a check-up it won’t count as a pre-existing condition.

Kitten Insurance – Tips to Stay On Track

So you’ve found some good insurance cat based with coverage for a good number of things, pretty inclusive, and the premium is just where you want it. Well guess what? Premiums tend to go up with the age of your pet. So before you lock yourself into this plan you’d better make sure that your plan has a fixed premium. One other big thing to watch out for is how often procedures can be performed. Some plans will only cover your pet a certain amount of times per year, others will only cover them a certain amount of times per life. It is worth making sure you have some sort of coverage that at least renews yearly or you’ll more than likely end up regretting your decision.

In Conclusion

If you’re thinking of getting insurance for your cat and are sitting here right now trying to do some research then you are in a good spot right now. With the knowledge you now have you will be able to demand more and pay less, while avoiding all the common traps. So good luck and let getting your kitten insurance be an easy transaction that serves you well for years!…

Benefits Of Feeding Your Cat All Natural Cat Food

Benefits Of Feeding Your Cat All Natural Cat Food

If a person owns a cat or a brand new baby kitten, this cute and cuddly fur ball can be prone to sickness and diseases, especially the mysterious kitty Leukemia. So, right from the beginning the cat’s health needs to be optimized. This starts with what a person feeds it. All natural cat food can do this for a person’s cat or kitten. But, what is the definition of all natural cat food? It means that there are no preservatives, artificial ingredients, colors or dyes, and no chemical process whatsoever. Most pet food a person sees on the market today contains all this.

But, there is a new wave of pet foods that are specifically geared towards holistic or all natural pet food. Consumers treat their cats just like one of the family or even a child. So, they are demanding change. Life’s Abundance is one company that is helping to keep pets healthy. This company actually uses an animal plant health inspection service. This certifies the food as authentic all natural cat food. The all natural cat food ingredients that make a person’s cat food are high quality and not low standards. There is absolutely no dairy, corn or wheat, chemicals, artificial flavors, or colors. There are five sources of protein for a person’s kitty:

Chicken meal

Egg

Chicken Liver Meal

Herring Meal

Turkey Meal

With eggs, it is a complete protein that a cat can easily digest. It is chock full of vitamins to help with cell growth. The turkey is also very easy to digest as cats have more sensitive stomachs. The chicken used has all the moisture taken out of it so it becomes a higher source of protein. Herring will help the cat’s fur and skin to be beautiful and shiny looking, which will mean very healthy. The reason all natural cat food has liver in it is because of Vitamin A. The cat doesn’t convert the vitamins from veggies over to it.

It also contains Taurine. With this combined, it becomes an excellent source of protein. With all the fuss about anti oxidants for humans, what about animals? Grape seed extract is also added to the all natural cat food to keep the cat healthy along with probiotics and beet pulp. This keeps the kitty’s sensitive tummy on the right track to healthy digestion. There is also canned cat food that is very nutrient rich and contains the same ingredients. The cat will not eat as much because it’s not filled with junk.

It also has water that has vitamins and minerals in it. A cat drinks water when eating to wash it down. So, all the holistic aspects are covered. There are also all natural cat treats that are geared towards the cat’s skin and coat to help keep it healthy and shiny. For more information on this inventive company, check out Life’s Abundance all natural cat food. Your cat will love you for it!…

Treating Goldfish Ick

Treating Goldfish Ick

Goldfish ick is a problem that will kill your pet if you don’t identify and treat it immediately. The ick parasite burrows its way into your goldfish and will basically eat it alive, until infection ravages the fish to the point of death. Luckily, despite how aggressively goldfish ick can spread; it can be treated with relative ease. Look below for an easy step by step to remove the problem:

1. You’re going to have to chemically treat the tank and fish to get rid of the ick parasite. Start by placing snails and live plants in the aquarium in a separate tank until the treatment is done.

2. Next, you’ll have to remove/disable any UV lamps and charcoal filters, while you introduce the goldfish ick treatment, otherwise the chemical will not be effective.

3. Next you’re going to need a Malachite green chemical ick treatment and a thermometer: Add a single drop of Malachite green for every gallon of water in the tank, then increase the temperature of the water by a 1/2 degree Celsius.

4. The next day you’re going to want to remove 1/4 of the water in the tank and replace it with fresh water. Step 3 will be repeated, including raising the temperature another 1/2 degree Celsius.

5. You’re going to continue the daily treatments until the goldfish ick is eliminated (see treatment bottle for more specific information).

The problem should quickly disappear after three days of treatment, but may take longer depending on how bad the problem is. The ick can get into the tank for any number of reasons, but is usually introduced by contaminated food, or by new fish introduced to the aquarium. Always feed your fish freeze dried food and closely examine any new fish before putting them in with healthy ones.…

These Dogs Have the Luck ‘O the Irish

These Dogs Have the Luck ‘O the Irish

The Irish are known for many things: delicious corned beef and cabbage, Guinness beer, leprechauns and four leafed clovers. But did you know that the Irish are also known for their magnificent dog breeds?

Here are a few breeds that originate from the great island of Ireland and some neat facts about them:

* Glen of Imaal Terrier: Though this particular breed makes a great companion dog, they can easily be trained to hunt badgers, foxes and even mice. This breed makes a perfect family pet but can be aggressive and stubborn at times.

* Irish Red & White Setter: A distinctly different breed than the Irish Setter, the Irish Red & White Setter is thought to be the oldest breed of setters. She is intelligent, athletic and courageous – all perfect characteristics for a field dog.

* Irish Setter: A relative of the English setter this breed is known for their glamorous mahogany red coat. Makes a perfect hunting dog as he is easily able to adapt to a variety of climates and terrain.

Pam Talley’s BARF dog, Clancy, was a gorgeous Irish Setter. The Irish Setter breed is known for it’s distinct solid red coat.

* Irish Terrier: This breed is over two thousand years old and a close relative to the wirehaired fox terrier. Nicknamed the “little daredevil” this breed is known for her extraordinary courage and is commonly trained to hunt, retrieve and even relay messages during times of war.

* Irish Water Spaniel: Thought to be a cross between a poodle and Irish setter, this cheerfully obedient breed is bright and easily trained to aid the avid bird hunter. Unfortunately his curly coat is a handful to maintain but when done properly makes for a magnificent looking dog.

* Irish Wolfhound: Originally used to hunt wolves by the Celtics, this breed was later brought to Ireland by the Romans where it was influenced by the Great Dane and deerhound breeds. Makes a wonderful companion dog though he does tend to favor a single master. Well suited as a hunting dog or guard dog but does need a great deal of space to run.

As you can see from the picture above, the Irish Wolfhound is a large breed dog reaching heights of at least 31-35 inches and weighing over 119 lbs.

* Kerry Beagle: One of the oldest native Irish breeds, the Kerry beagle is thought to be a descendant of the Celtic Hound. The Kerry beagle is commonly used for hunting and scent tracking though she also makes a wonderful pet. One thing to consider is that she requires constant exercise – regular walks two to three times a day is a must.

* Kerry Blue Terrier (Irish Blue Terrier): A cross between the Irish terrier and the Dandie Dinmont, the Kerry Blue Terrier was developed by Irish shepherds during the 1700’s. The Kerry blue has become the symbol of Ireland. Though a bit stubborn, this breed is trainable to become a loyal part of the family. Often used as a hunting dog, retriever, guard dog, mouser, and police canine.

* Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier: A strong yet graceful dog, the soft-coated wheaten terrier is known to be a truly versatile dog and is used as a guard dog, herding dog, and hunting dog. Fully adaptable, he is happy indoors or outdoors and makes a great family companion.

The Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier weighs approximately 35 lbs. and known for his thick, soft, wheat colored coat.

As you can see, Ireland is blessed with so many breeds of dogs that it would be difficult to choose a favorite. It’s quite amazing that the Irish have so many different types of dogs on such a small island, all with varied personalities, uses and characteristics. No wonder the Irish are such great dog lovers!

Pets Are Seriously Affected by the Chemicals In Your Home

Pets Are Seriously Affected by the Chemicals In Your Home

Studies by the Environmental Working Group have proven household pets typically contain 2 – 5 times more toxins in their systems than their people. Woof!

Because dogs (and most other animals) age and develop at a much faster rate, they also respond to contaminants by developing health problems at a faster rate. Increased rates of cancers in dogs and cats has mirrored increased rates of cancers in humans over the last 20 years. Other health issues such as respiratory problems, allergies, thyroid disease and reproductive organs and skin problems are on the rise as well.

There are numerous potential sources of contaminants. Many commercial carpets are laden with formaldehyde; recently recognized by the FDA as a carcinogen. Upholstered furniture, clothing and stuffed animals are coated with flame retardants (PBDEs). Listed as a possible human carcinogen. The finish on most wood surfaces such as Wayne’s Coating and flooring also contain formaldehyde, as well as toluene, xylenes, and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). All of which are known, or suspected carcinogens. Cleaning products may contain toxins such as Trichloroethylene, Phenol, and Naphthalene.

Individually, these chemicals mixing in the air in your home present a risk not only to the humans in your family, but your animals. Cumulatively, its a recipe for disaster.

Many toxic chemicals are heavier than air, and gravitate to the floors in your home where family pets spend their time. Other pets like to sleep in their person’s bed where commercial laundry detergents can introduce them to chemicals such as artificial fragrances, 1,4-dioxane, and bleach. Typical pet behaviors such as licking and grooming, and of course cleaning up any crumbs from the kitchen floor also introduces more contaminants to their system through ingestion.

You may not be ready to remodel your home, but there are actions you can take to clear the air.

~ Leave windows open for a few minutes every day to keep healthier outdoor air flowing through your home pushing contaminated air out.

~ Take your shoes off at the door – you’ll avoid tracking dirt and contaminants from the outdoors to the indoors.

~ Use non toxic cleansers, particularly floor cleaners.

~ When doling out water for your pets, use water (from a glass container) that you have allowed to air for several hours (this off gases any chlorine in the water). Just keep a jug ready.

~ Use Brewer’s Yeast and Garlic, rather than toxic flea and tick repellents. One tab per 10 pounds is really effective.

As you consider safer products for your home, think of the additional benefit your pets will enjoy!…

Choosing Proper Canary Cages

Choosing Proper Canary Cages

One of the great benefits about owning a canary, is being able to let them fly around the house and knowing they won’t stray very far from their cage. It’s still important to choose appropriate canary cages if you’re going away from home, or you don’t want them flying around your home. A generic, all-purpose type of bird cage may not be right for your canary, as they are so thin they can fit through the bars of most pet store varieties.

What To Consider

Bar gap:

You’ll need a cage that’s large enough that your little bird friend can comfortably bounce around, eat their food, drink and generally feel contented with their space. This isn’t too hard to do, as most cages you find will be just fine. One thing you want to take into careful consideration is that the space between each bar should have no more than a half-inch gap, or less. If you purchase a cage made specifically for a canary, you’ll find the bar space will be just right in most cases.

Dimensions:

Though you will often see your canary bounce up to its roost; they like to either fly in circles, or from side to side. With this in mind; purchase canary cages that have plenty of width, over looking for something that is tall and narrow. If you give your bird lots of freedom to fly around your home, this may be less of a worry, but the last thing you want is a restless canary when you’re trying to relax in front of the television.

Cage materials:

Stainless steel, or stainless steel coated canary cages are preferable to all other materials. You will need to keep your pet canary’s area super clean to keep them from becoming ill, so the easier the cage is to clean, the better. Avoid being thrifty and buying something with thin wire, since they’re less durable.…
