3 Rules for Finding Good Dog Food

How often do you think about what your feed your dog? Do you know what’s in it? Do you even know what is a healthy diet for a dog? Many dog owners think that the dog food that they are giving their dogs is healthy, but in fact, it’s not. Many people assume that if it’s healthy for a human then it must be healthy for a dog. While this is true to some degree, it’s not the case for the types of food dogs should eat. The following are three easy rules to remember when choosing dog food.
1. Many dog foods are filled with food unfit for anything to eat.
Pet foods originally began as a way for food processors to salvage food that was deemed unfit for human consumption. This would include animals that were sick, diseased, or dead on arrival. This also included spoiled or diseased grain and corn. When searching for a good dog food for your dog, be sure to see if it is USDA certified.
2. Remember that dogs are carnivores.
Many pet food brands advertise themselves as being healthy alternatives because they are filled with whole grains, corn, and rice. While that may be healthy for humans (there’s debate on this, but that’s a different article), it is not for dogs. Dogs’ digestive systems are short, straight, and are not able to efficiently digest grains. Dogs in the wild are primarily carnivores that eat fresh meat and shun most plant matter including vegetables.
3. Stay away from preservatives.
In particular watch out for artificial preservatives such as BHA, BHT, and Ethoxyquin. These chemicals are hard for anything alive to process and be the cause of many pet allergies.
Many dog food brands advertise themselves as healthy for dogs when in fact they’re not. It’s often best to look for brands that are made primarily of meat, do not contain artificial preservatives, and are USDA inspected.…

How To Be Your Dog’s Leader

We have talked before about the importance of learning your dog’s psychology to be able to train him properly. Imagining the solutions just won’t do the trick.
Today we will show you what teaching your pet who the leader is. You have probably seen Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer, talk about you being the leader of the pack all the time. Well, that is exactly what I am talking about.
When you lead your dog you are communicating your leadership and at the same time, you are teaching him/her good manners. Keep in mind that the animal learns better when reinforced than when punished, and that is something very frequently forgotten when trying to train the animal.
Not all dogs respond the same way to all positive reinforcements, but one that hardly ever fails is food. Try to keep some sort of treat around at the beginning. This will be substituted later with praise and caresses and it will mean the same to your pet. Love is always the best reward!
There is also a very important point one must never forget. Dog owners also have to learn to be the leader of the pack. That does not necessarily come naturally to us, even though we think the opposite.
Forcing is not leading! Transmitting your knowledge of what you are doing to your dog in a calm way has always the best results. We are not trying to impose, but to teach.
Whatever you want to teach your dog has to be based on his/her respect for you and his/her desire to follow your lead.
If you are willing to take the necessary time to train your dog at the beginning, because you certainly want to have a well behaved pet, you must never forget that persistence is of the utmost importance. It is easy to get tired and to feel sometimes like you want “to throw in the towel”, but that way, do remember that you will always lose the fight!
If you have children, you probably know what I mean. Not even us humans learn anything the first time we try it. We have to repeat and repeat until it is embedded in our brain, so consider this every time you are faced with the need to give your dog the next lesson.
You will lead by example, so you have to learn to be a good leader first!…

No Fail Dog Care Tips And Tricks

There is not another pet in the world like a dog. A dog can give you the loyalty and friendship that you can’t get with another animal. That’s why they deserve special attention. Here are some suggestions to assist you in making sure your dog can live the good life.

You need to take your older pet to the vet at lease once a day. Because your dog can’t speak with you, you may have trouble knowing when your dog is feeling pain like if it has arthritis. An annual vet visit can help you find problems early.

Never hit your dog. There are better ways to train a dog without having to resort to violence. The best way to train a dog is to reinforce positive behaviors with treats and attention. Negative behavior should be handled with a stern and disapproving voice as opposed to striking the animal.

Get your dog spayed or neutered. This reduces the chances of cancer and helps keep the stray animal population down. Dogs that are neutered or spayed don’t have strong urges to leave their home, reducing their chances of getting hit by a vehicle or getting lost.

If your dog gets lost, it is very unlikely that you will see him again unless he has proper identification. Tags can come off, so the best option is a microchip. It is quick to put in your dog, and it causes minimal discomfort. Simply register the chip ID after it is put in, and your pet will always have his identification with him.

Do you have a “wrinkly” dog, like a bulldog? If so, you have to be conscientious about the grooming process in order to help keep your pet clean. After you brush, take a baby wipe and use it to get in between the folds on their body. Make sure, though, to get them fully dry after doing so.

Dog

If your dog spends a lot of time outdoors, he or she may eventually come in contact with a skunk. If he gets sprayed, mix together one teaspoon of dish-washing detergent, a fourth a cup of baking soda and a quart of hydrogen peroxide solution (but make sure it is no more than three percent). Apply the mixture to your dog’s coat and allow it to sit for five minutes. Wash your dog off well afterward.

Ease your dog into knowing a new baby that comes into your home. Dogs can be very jealous and you need to continue to show him plenty of love an affection, even though you’ve got a brand new bundle of joy in your life. Talk to the dog as you handle the baby and keep him in the loop.

Dogs are the most wonderful pets around, and most people know that. These social creatures deserve our affection. And if you own one, he deserves your best. Use the information here to make sure that you are doing all you can in order to give your dog a truly happy life.…
